I had an excellent experience with Accessible Travel Kenya. I travelled in my Etac Balder electric wheelchair, and the Toyota Voxy was perfectly suited to our needs, with a ramp and a secure wheelchair locking system that felt safe and reliable. Everything was handled seamlessly—from transport coordination in Nairobi and Mombasa to equipment hire—and the team were flexible, responsive, and easy to work with throughout. A special thank you to our drivers, Hempstone and Betty. Their kindness, professionalism, and support made a real difference and truly enhanced the trip. I’d highly recommend Accessible Travel Kenya to anyone looking for reliable and well-organised accessible travel services.

Muthuri and team have identified and booked for me more than 3 wheelchair accessible trips across Kenya. Very keen on my accessibility needs and makes sure I have a comfortable stay each time. I look forward to more adventures together!

Anyone with experience of travelling as a person with a disability will know that every detail requires extra planning. Ensuring you have suitable transport and accommodation for your individual access needs is a complex task, particularly when travelling to a different country. I highly recommend Muthuri and his team at Accessible Travel Kenya to take away this complexity, allowing you to enjoy what Kenya has to offer. After a 9-hour flight, we arrived in Kenya for our 2-week safari a little apprehensive as we weren’t sure how accessible everything would be for a wheelchair user. After a professional airport transfer and the first day of safari in Nairobi National Park, we knew we were in safe hands, so the apprehension turned to excitement for the rest of our trip. We had an amazing safari visiting Masai Mara, Lake Nakuru, Ol Pejeta and Samburu. The Land Cruiser with a ramp meant we could visit the remote areas of the parks and maximise wildlife viewings. All the accommodation had level access and spectacular views. Muthuri and Jimmy went beyond the basic requirements for an accessible safari. They taught us about wildlife conservation, the history of Kenya and even helped push another Land Cruiser out of the mud. They provided flexibility to go on game drives at the times at suited us and Jimmy tailored the routes to provide the best chance of seeing the wildlife we wanted to see. We can’t wait for an opportunity to go back to Kenya and find more of its unique treasures to enjoy!

Great experience with Steve's Accessible Travel Company. Cliff was my guide and always took care of me. I can't speak to the accessibility portion, I have no mobility limitations. They were able to customize an itinerary for me based on what I wanted to see. Solo female traveler and felt extremely safe. If you want to make your itinerary more efficient, ask them for a breakdown of hours per activity/drive so you can see if you need more rest or want to do more in a day.

Accessible Travel Kenya had such a fantastic time on the company’s two-week safari with Accessible Travel Kenya in March that the company decided to return in July for a 10-day trip.

Accessible Travel Kenya was delighted to find that, since the company’s previous visit, Accessible Travel Kenya had acquired 12-foot telescopic ramps. These made getting into the Land Cruisers even easier, and the company was also able to use them to access a light aircraft for a flight from the Maasai Mara to Tsavo, saving Accessible Travel Kenya two days of road travel.

Muthuri did a fantastic job designing Accessible Travel Kenya’s itinerary, taking into account the company’s individual requests, including the company’s particular desire to see hippos! All of the hotels he arranged had excellent wheelchair access and were very well suited to the company’s needs. The company was also really excited to travel Premium Class on the train from Tsavo back to Nairobi. The experience included lie-flat beds and meals served at the company’s seats, making it a very comfortable way to finish the company’s trip.

Jimmy accompanied Accessible Travel Kenya throughout the entire trip, which was incredibly reassuring. Knowing that someone was always on hand to help with any accessibility issues gave Accessible Travel Kenya great peace of mind. He was also excellent company and helped make the whole experience even more enjoyable.

Once again, Accessible Travel Kenya delivered a great safari experience. Their attention to accessibility, thoughtful planning and friendly, knowledgeable staff made it a pleasure from start to finish. We wouldn’t hesitate to travel with them again and would highly recommend them to anyone looking for their own accessible adventure in Kenya.

Your questions answered

Planning an accessible holiday to Kenya

Can a wheelchair user really go on safari in Kenya?
Yes. Accessible Travel Kenya’s adapted Land Cruisers have ramps or swivel seats and pop-up roofs, so you can enjoy game drives in the Maasai Mara, Amboseli, Samburu and beyond, with step-free rooms checked by the company’s own team.
Is it only for wheelchair users?
No. The company caters to everyone: seniors and slow walkers, blind and partially sighted travellers, Deaf guests, people with hidden disabilities, and their families and friends.
Do UK citizens need a visa for Kenya?
British citizens apply online for an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) before they fly, ideally two weeks ahead. Since 5 October 2026, visitors also buy Kenya’s government travel health insurance during the application. The company guides you through every step.
Is Kenya safe for tourists?
Millions of visitors travel safely each year. The company plans routes, lodges and timings carefully, the company’s first-aid-trained driver-guides are with you throughout, and you have 24-hour WhatsApp support. The company recommends checking the latest UK government (FCDO) travel advice before you book and before you travel.
When is the best time to visit?
The dry seasons, from late June to October and from January to February, are best for game viewing, with the wildebeest migration in the Maasai Mara from about July to October. April to June and November bring greener landscapes, quieter parks and lower rates.
How far ahead should I book?
For the July to October migration season and Christmas, book six months or more ahead, as accessible rooms are limited. For other months, three to four months is usually enough.
