Day by day
Day 1: Zanzibar to Lake Manyara
An early transfer takes you to the airport for the flight to Arusha, where your safari guide is waiting. Drive through Maasai country, where young herders are often seen with their cattle, to Lake Manyara National Park for game viewing among tree-climbing lions and rich birdlife. Overnight in Karatu.
Day 2: Ngorongoro Crater
Descend from the crater rim into Ngorongoro Crater, a vast green caldera that is home to more than 120 mammal species, including all of the Big Five. It is one of Tanzania’s best places to see the endangered black rhino, with hippo pools, buffalo, big herds of wildebeest and zebra, and predators such as lion, cheetah, jackal and hyena. Return to Karatu for dinner and the night.
Day 3: Tarangire to Arusha and Zanzibar
Spend the day in Tarangire National Park, where the river attracts herds of elephant and plenty of other wildlife, including greater kudu and fringe-eared oryx. Enjoy a picnic lunch overlooking the river, then drive to Arusha airport for your flight back to Zanzibar.
