Day by day
Day 1: Arrival, spice tour and Matemwe Sands
From the airport you head to the Kizimbani plantations to pick, smell and taste cloves, star fruit, lemongrass, mangosteen and the ‘lipstick tree’, with a chance to buy locally made oils and perfumes. You then continue to Matemwe Sands on the north-east coast for a welcome drink, lunch, dinner and your first all-inclusive night.
Day 2: Mnemba Atoll snorkelling
After an early breakfast a boat takes you about an hour along the coast from Matemwe, often with dolphins alongside, to snorkel two very different sites at the protected Mnemba Atoll, from coral gardens to a deep reef wall. A seafood barbecue on Muyuni beach follows before a traditional sail back to Matemwe.
Day 3: Stone Town tour and departure
You are collected after breakfast for a two to three-hour Stone Town tour, starting at the lively market and taking in the 1874 cathedral, the Zanzibar Museum, Tippu Tip’s House, the former British Club, the Old Fort and the restored Indian Dispensary. After time for shopping you are transferred to the airport.
